The Test
Some throw away their cats and dogs
Like garbage from a slum.
They sneer at God for thinking,
They'd mean something to someone.
Are pets not made of flesh and bone
The same as you and I?
Do they not feel the pain of hurt:
The kind that makes us cry?
I often wonder when the Lord
Views how we treat His friends:
Will this affect His judgment,
When we face our own sure end?
Perhaps our pets are but a test,
To show what's in our soul.
If we are worthy of God's grace,
Or if we are un-whole?
If such a test should then decree,
We'll dwell, just as they've dwelled.
Perhaps a preview, in advance,
Of what we'll bare in hell.
