The Pursuit of Hollow Dreams

Trails and rails, and winding roads Empty barns, abandoned abodes I've grown too tired to bear this load In this world, I have no place My path has led me, far from home I find no comfort as I roam Away from all the love I've known I'm lost without a trace Along this path I wander, aimless. To history, I shall be nameless For hollow were the dreams I've sought The right direction, I know not. Repressed the jest that brought me smiles My sorrow grows with passing miles Upon myself, Ive brought these trials I haven't the strength to face I left the place where I belong Too stubborn to admit I'm wrong Despair is for those, who wait too long There are too many steps to retrace Disillusioned by my hopes My soul is not equipped to cope For hollow were the dreams I've sought Of inspiration, I know not. Tomorrow my sorrow shall grow even more So distant the faces of those I adore So deep is this anguish it clinches my core I long for a loving embrace All that I've gained, I would eagerly trade For a chance to erase, the mistakes I have made and return to their arms before memories fade I ask this of God by his grace Solitude is the burden of pride and destiny is a heartless guide For hollow were the dreams I've sought. My destination, I know not.

I'd just call it a "rhyme" as you did, Joe. I do some where there is one line that doesn't match the rhyme scheme, but overall, it's still a rhyme. To my knowledge there is no other name for this form. Love, Carolyn

I know I've read poems with this four pattern rhyme scheme before but I can't seem to match it to any of the forms. Can anyone help me out?

Oie yoie, this is heart wrenching, Joe. A subject that many can identify with. Pride does lead to darkened paths, however, God does shine His light so we can be led out of obscurity. Profound and throught provoking, Joe! Best to you and yours, Mikki

Terrific poem Joe. Love the rhyme, meter and unusual rhyming pattern - it works beautifully in this poem. Add a great, introspective message and you have a terrific piece of poetry. Well done. Joe

You have nice descripitiveness and rhyming throughout this presentation. This work needs a few corrections. I'm sending you a soup mail message to let you know about them.

Joe, I swear you and I are living the same type of life. Can always relate to your words. If you visit me in Florida, I'll give you the "warm embrace" we both need. This is such a moving poem, sadly a truthful perspective on those of us who seem to wander aimlessly. Excellent work, my friend. Love, Carolyn

Wow, what an amazing write. I surely can relate to this. Quality work. I've been away from writing for so long: it took something like this to remind me what writing is all about. Indeed, beautiful and heartbreaking. David
