The Night Had Gone Awry Premiere Contest Winner

There was a painting offered as inspiration for this contest. I'm sorry I'm not able to include it for lack of a premium membership, but I hope I've managed, just a little, to set the scene with imagery. Moonlight was diffused by a shadowed sky Thunder hammered with the power of Thor Sullen clouds released a deluge in downpour Something about the night had gone awry There was a flash of lightning; a blaring scream With heart wrenching sobs, a woman wept Her raven tresses billowed, wild and windswept She appeared before me as a specter in a dream I hesitated to call out, in fear she'd run away but I could not ignore another mournful wail Her arms were thin and she was ghostly pale She shivered, trembled, and began to sway She was frightened as though chased by death Words were mumbled, but none of them clear Her eyes searched the night, panicked with fear I spoke calmly until she regained her breath Her last memory was that she had gone to bed and was having a nightmare about being stalked Quite a distance from her home, she had walked when lightning's crackle woke her from dread I helped her home, sidestepping puddles of mud She still trembled, not interested in conversation She thanked me, but I had a moment of hesitation... The porch light revealed she was covered in blood August 6, 2020 Be Inspired Poetry Contest Sponsored by Regina McIntosh

Thank you, Tom. ummm, I think I'll just let everyone draw there own conclusions. Things are not always as they seem.

I like the hang ending. Intended to comment on your poem, because it's very solid. 'Unfelt' rhyme fits beautifully, a really superb write. A winner.

So, you're gonna make us finish the story for ourselves...what a gripping write, Jenna, it leaves me wanting more, to know why she was covered in blood. Your writing is amazing my friend. Best of luck in the contest. Hugs, John

I am just giving you a hard time, Jenna. Sometimes it is very effective to leave a story hanging and let the reader draw their own conclusions. You wrote this piece well. :)

Ok ok. You and Tom are putting a pen in my hand to solve the mystery, so I suppose I'll have to write a follow up with a fitting conclusion...what ever that may be. Thanks, John.

You certainly didn't need a painting Jenna, I could picture it in my mind. Your imagery was stunning. It was like one of those thrillers that has you on the edge of your seat and the front door knocks and you jump out of your skin. Brilliantly written. Tom

haha This ended up going in a direction I had not planned. My muse took control and before I knew it, she had me mixed up in a bloody mystery. I guess since you and John are giving me a 'need to know' push, I'll have to find a conclusion for this one. I'll let you know when I know. Hugs.
