The Mother Tree I am the mother tree that spawned the seeds of you. My children, you've grown and branched away from me. You've married, left home to start your life anew. Where e'er you go remember you're my family. My roots run very deep into the earthly soil. My centered rings are many, you may not yet view. They show the story of my years of work and toil And of growth and wisdom I've tried to share with you. As you branch out, your little seedlings too will grow. You'll try to keep them safe under your canopy. One day when they grow up and leave, you too will know The painful pangs of missing branches on your tree. As they return for advice from their mother tree Remind them to honor God with humility. 6-13-20 ~First Place~ Poem of the Day June 15, 2020~ Non Human Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Chantelle Anne Cooke

Thank you very much Silpika. I wrote this when my last daughter moved away and took my granddaughter with her I had watched from birth. I was missing all my children very much, empty nest type thing. My daughter returned with my granddaughter to live with me after my husband died in July 2020. Blessings xxoo

There is such a reassuring and knowing tone to this poem... one who has experienced the joy of having young, and the pain of letting them go. Now with the wisdom to pass on what you know. Fantastic penning. Also couldn't help but notice the difference of feel with having a 12 syllable line sonnet (I don't think I've tried it, but after reading this, maybe so...)

I am so glad I got to share this poem with my husband before he passed away July 29th, 2020. I wrote it because I was really missing my granddaughter. My daughter and granddaughter came to live with us one month before he died which was his fondest wish. The 12 syllable count allows for a more expressive poem Tim. A really belated thank you for your nice comment. I just happened on it tonight. Blessings, Connie xxoo

Dear Connie, back to enjoy this delightful poem. It's awesome and very fitting that it should lead the parade of PS poetry in the 2020 PS Anthology. If I didn't FAVE it before I'm doing it now.

I love this photo I found to go with my poem Andrea. It would be grand but the book would have to be much larger to contain them. Thanks blessings xxoo
