The Magnolias Were Magnificent

a sea of luscious buds - pink promises ready to burst into bloom. That night, the freeze came, withered the petals to shriveled brown remains But is this sadder than never to have budded at all? April 12, 2018

What a delightful poem, Agnes! Even beauty is capable of sad suggestive thoughts! I compare this with the early loss of a loved child...would it have been better had it not been conceived? Regards // paul

Excellent Agnes. So true, to have lived and budded being better than not at all :)

Thank you, Andrea - I'm trying. I can see from my list of poem submissions where I had phases when I am swamped at work or traveling and distracted. Hope to find some inner quiet for more writing soon.

It may be impossible to understand but a little bit of love is better than no love and a short-lived bud better than no life at all...Good message...All the best Agnes

I find it rather funny. The last stanza that is. The way it has been raining, they will soon bloom again. i enjoyed the read, Agnes. Made me smile. A departing shot to Tennyson:)

Tennyson said," Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all." Your last verse brought that to my mind. It's all good, Ms Agnes:)

Thanks, Daniel. Please explain the Tennyson reference, I didn't get that. I hope you are right and the trees recover.

Nicely done, Agnes, the cold does tend to take away our beauty in our flowers.. Hugs Eve ~`*
