The Loner

He chose the hard and doubtful life A life of booze and sin He was a hard and ruthless man With no love held within He met this timid bashful girl While walking home one night Her windblown hair, her honest eyes Presented quite a sight He tipped his hat and said; "How do" And she did not reply But walked on by with steps so strong Her beautiful chin held high He vowed that day to change his ways Become a different man But did he have a chance to change He's sure he really can He dreamed a dream of her last night She, dancing in his arms But he awoke with doubtful mind He didn't have the charms He slipped again into that dream Like an angel she reached out Her hand fell short of his that night And she began to pout Again his reverie became A clouded fog, a mist And like the wind would kiss a cloud She rose and kissed his lips If only this were real he thought What happiness I'd find I'd revel in my own good luck And maybe change her mind But did he have the will to change? To give up booze and sin To have her open up her heart And let this loner in!
