The Last Sleep
The Last Sleep
O’ Whispering Angel see; my journey’s now at end
You have been my mainstay, my helper, and my friend.
Thanks for being my Guide, and thank you for your patience
For teaching me good ways, and showing me life’s essence.
That every time I spoke, I uttered measured sentence
And to them that did provoke, I smiled in treasured silence.
Everything I did, was done with clearest conscience
And naughty thoughts I had, were simply childhood innocence.
Love for all my neighbours, was never once pretence
Just as when you taught me - that hatred made no sense.
Learning all the time, of wisdom and intelligence
But knowing of their values - the difference: indifference.
I never saw your face, but always felt your presence
Giving me good grace and always favoured preference.
Thank you Guardian Angel, Protector of my Keep.
Now I Rest in Peace - Defender of my Sleep.
