The Journey To the Other Land
The sun shines brightly but the days grow ever dimmer
The birds fill the air with song but all that is heard is the ticking of the clock
As age steadily overcomes us the mind moves to a different plane
Those things that thrilled us as children and young adults seem meaningless
We no longer compete for love, for recognition or even for self-satisfaction
The explanations of learned men of life's mysteries become nonsensical
We look to the heavens and say to ourselves "what should I believe?"
The world is filled with beautiful things but that beauty is tarnished by human greed
It would seem that the mountain of human compassion is too steep for most to climb
As those that climb upward are pulled back down by those that glorify evil
Wars wage on, people starve and the rich wallow in their extravagances
It is said that if the world is ever to change it is we that must make it happen
But the energy to act quickly abandons us and we cast our meager weapons aside
So as age slowly moves each of us ever closer toward the end of life as we know it
Our dreams become filled with flashes of our past lives and irreversible regrets
Sometimes we find ourselves dreaming only to find ourselves seemingly fully awake
Could it be that the journey to the other land is already underway?
