The Fourth of July
On this very special day, this Fourth of July
We celebrate independence with pride and a soft and saddened sigh
Pride in our country founded on principles of equality for all
A soft sigh for those that died defending her, names too many to recall
Their grave markers stand throughout this land and on foreign shores as well
Each one a symbol of sacrifice, each one with a simple life's story to tell
These trying times bring new challenges we must face as evil knows no end
And freedom is such a fragile state, one we must stand ready to defend
For like fine crystal when it shatters from neglect or at the hands of evil men
Any chance at restoration is lost forever, far too many tiny pieces for us to mend
So raise your flag and let the fireworks fly as you celebrate this honored day
But remember that what was gained can be lost if we falter and lose our way
