The Brothers Grimm

Listen to poem:
Once upon a time there was a quaint little farm and on it sat a rather large equine barn Full of great horses and people and their tack but for pest control there was a bit of a lack The people conferred with the proprietor and said "There's too many mice under feet and birds overhead" The proprietor conferred with his wife and they agreed that some new little hunters were badly in need He informed all his tenants, gave them a ring he said "For our little problem I have just the thing... The brothers arrived all timid and scared 3 stumbling kittens with sleek gray hair Bundles of fur and love and play they surely didn't seem any threat to their prey But it didn't take long for these brothers to become quiet little hunters one by one As they all grew and watched they learned the good life isn't always easy, but it's better earned Little Shadow, Cloud, and Storm of this pride of brothers small creatures be warned Like stealthy wraiths they stalk the night their grey cloak revealing only yellow eyes glowing bright So now we tiny creatures can befall a new fate if we see the eyes it's already too late And we tell this tale to our young when night is nigh and day is done Beware the reapers slinking in Beware the eyes...The Brothers Grimm!!

Good Morning Chris. Wow. You are not only a poetess but a storyteller as well. This is expressed with clarity and vividness. It was so clear that we were all in the scene looking on as everything unfolded. Honestly. Bless all the little creatures good bad or indifferent. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy the morning. This was the smile for the day and a lovely way to get it started. Well done entirely.

Thanks for reading Jan, glad you enjoyed it!... the "proprietor's wife" loved that I wrote about her cats, and framed a copy of it! (original version in Old English Text MT font)...of course I got a hug too:)

chris, I returned to this one, forgetting I had read it already. It's so cool. I was thinking maybe you had done the acrostic for the tv show about Grim! Have you seen that show? It's really good.

Yes I am a fan! That was partial inspiration for this write. (If your up to date on the show...I'm pretty sure the "healing stick" Nick and Monroe found took away Juliett's hexenbeast when they used it on her in the season finale!)

A lovely and entertaining narrative poem, Chris! I love cats, but to be honest I feel sorry for the barn mice (used to keep a couple as pets when I was young, though mum insisted that they stay on the farm!). Regards // paul

Thanks for reading Paul... I had a few gerbils when I was little, but they never lived very long. Farm life is a balance...actually the barn has been being trashed by raccoons too big for the little reapers...they had to be live trapped!

Thanks Andrea... I wrote this for one of their owners who likes poetry...she loved it! And although the story is dramatized, these brothers are real and earning their keep as barn cats. (Fact is of course, they hunt during the day too.)
