That was then, this is now

We'd look up at the stars on summer nights,
connecting with the universe somehow.
And we'd camp out away from city lights,
two best friends living on the edge of wow.
The world was our oyster; we dove for pearls
and left our fortunes in the hands of fate.
But then we started fighting over girls;
what we used to love, we began to hate.
We drifted apart and said no goodbyes;
but that was then; this is now; we have changed.
We're no longer those hormone-driven guys,
and I believe our friendship got short-changed.
We’ve lost too much time already, my friend;
our childhood friendship need not have to end.
