Tears
TEARS
on the front porch
by the food bowl
a dead cat
a tiger cat approaches
sniffs…turns…starts eating
ninth life spent
he lay against the rear tire
so peaceful
so beautiful those perfect stripes
by gentle breeze brought to life
boots lay with trusting eyes
my tears splashing the release form
a lethal needle waiting
when she stopped eating
i knew she’d run life’s course
tears began to flow
the vet but a mile away
oh! that fierce last hug
