You never know . . .

This is a repost of a poem I did in 2014 --  it was part of a duet with Mystic Rose who wrote the winter storm part.  I was contacted a while back from a composer who asked if he could use the summer storm.  I said yes.  Just heard back from him . . .

"Hi David, I wanted to let you know about my setting of "Summer Storm." It is part of a work for chorus, orchestra and soprano soloist entitled "The Wind." It commemorates the 10th anniversary of the destruction of Enterprise High School in Alabama by a tornado. It has six movements, of which your poem provides the text for the second. It will be premiered in Carnegie Hall on Monday March 27.

From the News:  "A massive tornado tore through Enterprise, Alabama, on March 1, 2007, leaving a swath of devastation about 180 meters (200 yards) wide through the small city. In the center of the storm’s path was Enterprise High School, where students sheltered in hallways as the tornado struck. The tornado ripped the roof off parts of the school, destroyed a hallway, the gym, and the stadium, said ABC News. By March 2, eight students were confirmed dead."

Keep writing friends . . . you never know how your words may impact another.

Love and live generously.
David Meade
The wind blows – quick, hard, fast – the hot stillness is broken Corn stalks weave wildly as the wind marches through it rows Dust rises to greet this invading storm Large drops of heavy rain hit with a thud Lightening electrifies and paints the blacking sky Hail rips leaves from their home – a hard crack of thunder Clouds tumbling, rolling, forming into a funnel A loud rushing noise – a banshee scream Trees snap, the wind-train thunders by . . . then a deep silence Holding hands they arise from underground Sky clearing, sun peeking through A double rainbow appears – a promise – life . . . love

Hello David Meade, i love a double rainbow after a sun shower. I often wonder where the beginning is and where is the end of the rainbow. Have a nice day my friend.

Those storms can be scary and it is good that people are prepared by having a storm shelter. I enjoyed reading your work. Life is like this storm for sometimes it comes with a rushing noise, a banshee scream and things around us snap. Thanks for the visit to my page. Sara

These lines are very expressive and inspiring, David; no wonder the composer was won over! I hope that after the premiere a recording will be made available. Congratulations on this fine achievement, my friend. ~ Best regards // paul

You write so accurately about these hideous things. On Dec. 28, 2015, my great nephew's home was completely demolished, many people were killed in Rockwall, Texas.

A well structured poem that says God is your shining light and He is just beyond those storm clouds that threaten to obscure your view. A well composed poem with a emotional release finding its way into our hearts. Emile.
