Summer Sonnet

Just a summer song I wrote 'long the trail. A heavy sleepy tune of time held still. A dusty melody of ivy full upon a broken trailside split fence rail. The grasses along the trail once upright citizens have now gone bad, turned brown, bent, gave up, are an arsonist's delight. Dogs that once barked, now find it hard to frown. A half-moon bakes in a cloudless blue sky. The high arc of the sun at four, has hours left before setting, and the monarchs fly through a molasses atmosphere. Flowers of spring still linger, memories tattered, petals dropping, things that one time mattered.
