Summer Moon
Tonight, the moon showed glowing gold
in arc across the sky.
Just two days shy of full, its face was
auburn in the sky.
Above vast smoky, flirting clouds which
danced a nighttime reel,
was this celestial, glowing face
a presage of dark seal?
Night's languid, shining sovereign drew
its veil upon the deep,
then set upon its lunar course
with all the stars a-sweep.
When next we spy those fleeting stars
will we see and declare,
"beware the eve a copper moon
lights with an omen's flare."
