Sudden Cold
It has suddenly become very cold
And I think, this time, it will not recede.
The warmth we've known may never be enjoyed
By our children and their future seed.
It was cold before and our Uncle Sam
Knocked down the Eastern Door to keep us warm.
His strength could keep us all from harm.
But now, the cold is from the North.
And, while I've learned to duck and cover,
I am not prepared to bow to this wild wind.
I hope my Uncle is strong enough to help again.
Maybe he will hear this call, before we fall
To this blatant challenge to us all.
It has suddenly become very cold indeed.
