With beating heart and dragging feet this dark and soulful night I stealthily tiptoe past her window hoping - not to see her light But bathed in luminosity she sits there in full view My hands go clammy yet again knowing not what to do My very own neighbour stalking me totally blows my mind Blatant betrayal of trust is not what I expected to find This person I befriended and in all innocence confided Her skewed level taken is so atrociously misguided
Why did it go so horribly wrong - maybe I'm to blame? When did I notice that it had gone way beyond a game? It was when she started slipping notes underneath my door Saying she was worried senseless - and couldn’t sleep before I got home safely - it was fine - and know that she would wait She loved me and worried that I was coming home so late
This declaration of love albeit sweet makes my skin start to crawl I should call security to have them a special alarm install At the door of my porch once again I find a single stem red rose Bringing perturbations and shallow breath as this agitation grows A fleeting shred of courage for confrontation I do seek But just the thought of facing her sends a knocking to my knees One day it all comes tumbling down when my girlfriend breaks my heart Waves of sorrow wash over me when I see my love depart
Love is such a fleeting thing and my soul weeps from deep within Scandalous thoughts I do harbor - of granting my stalker in Tie the wedding knot - make it taut - cater to our every whim And into her arms some comfort seek - would it be such a sin? ~ Placed First in Contest~ Contest Entry for ‘STALKER’ - Sponsored by Silent One - 17th November 2017

I also stumble at the twist in the stalking tale. But then good poetry at times needs to surprise. The story reminds me a lot of my ex-wife's stalkers. Yes plural they were. But from then on (and not really related to the stalking, I moved on and found new love. While she is still being stalked...

Hmmm, I just reread the ending and I think i misinterpreted it. That is a creepy ending. Makes it even more awesome though!!

This poem was inspired from the song and by an article that I read...." Former ABBA group member Agnetha Faltskog, 55, has again been targeted by a stalker, a former lover... After they broke up, he became obsessed with her and repeatedly was seen on the grounds of her mansion." Creepy. But she was at such a low point in her life that at one stage she thought of letting him back in her life.

wow, you really captured that feeling of being stalked so unwantingly. It's a horrible thing to have happen to a person. Congrats on this number one win!

Very interesting take on the theme... that the object of the stalker's affection hits such a low point in their life that what was previously a perilous prospect, now appears to be their only lifeline!! Congrats on your win. Regards, John.

I don't think that sin enters into it. It is a matter of rational thinking. I can't imagine a person, no matter how heartbroken they may be, welcoming a stalker into their life. If they were held captive, possibly, they might be affected by the Stockholm syndrome. Your poem is well constructed and presented Maria. Just my opinion. Best of luck in the contest. ; )

Interesting point of view on stalking, Maria. Quite a twist at the end to a twisted way of loving someone, my "twisted sister". Lol. Very well-written as usual! GL in the contest.

Yes having a stalker is a scary thing Harry. I tried to take this on a slightly different level, and I liked the song, but its not a funny situation at all. Thanks for visiting and lovely comments always, appreciate it.....Maria

Hello Maria, Excellent Work!! Also, Best of Luck in the contest with this very well-conceived Rhyme. The music highlights the narrative even more. It's so very unfortunate that situations like this occur in real life. Your ending with the final stanza and question at the end is quite powerful, and the lead-off verse at the beginning of this stanza form a memorable metaphor with stark symbolism with the "Scandalous thoughts . . . , etc." My Best Kudos to You, and A FAVE TOO!! Best Wishes, Gary

Excellent story telling Maria with fantastic content, rhythm and rhyme. I love your first line, the feeling of trepidation is keenly felt and sets up your stalker poem perfectly. Your last stanza is a perfect way to end your poem, especially the second and last lines of that stanza. Magnificent write my friend, as only you can do! Hugs and good luck in the contest!

So stalking can have its advantages, too, Maria! In such situations it's difficult to put blame at somebody's door...an innocent remarks could easily set the ball rolling! Must admit you caught me unawares with that final twist. gl in the contest (pleased to see you taking part). Regards // paul

Lol so it seems Paul, well in this case it worked out well anyway. Only in fiction as you can see my friend. Stalking in real life, is downright frightening, and people who do see a need to subject others with this type of behaviour need to see a shrink. thanks Paul for dropping by and inspiring comments as always. greatly appreciated my friend...Maria
