Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

The Platters had a hit with Jerome Kern's song many years ago. My eyes tear up as I recall dancing to it cheek to cheek and slow! Now my eyes tear up most every day as smoke gets in my eyes, From the smoke of western fires wafting o'er pristine Colorado skies!

Isn't it amazing how the government which spent so much on anti-smoking (cigarette) propaganda spends so little to go after the arsonsists responsible for this far deadlier round of fires? ~ Not surprising though, is it? ~ Where are we safe today, anyway?! :) gwCVH

You make an excellent point, GW! Thankfully, pristine skies the past few days and I hope it has cleared up in your area as well. Press on! Bob H

Hello Bob ... the price of wood nowadays is so expensive people are turning away from wood burning, in fact private owners cannot burn leaves or other garden rubbish now without a permit - best of luck Bob - Lindsay

Thank you Jan. We have some burning here in Colorado but not as bad as they are in Calif. Too many folks have lost everything and that is the sad part of it.

Ha! This is wonderful, Bob! My brothers live in Colorado and have been bemoaning the fact that they can’t really spend much time outside because of the air quality.

Thank you, Ilene. We can suffer thru the smoke but I really feel for those poor folks in Calif, many of whom have lost everything. Bob H

I simply cannot imagine what folks on the west coast are going through with the wildfires, but my thoughts and concerns are with them. I have always loved the song "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes," but it isn't always a pleasant experience! This poem is so well-written!
