Siddhartha's Service
Siddhartha's Service
A great strength gathered in your silence
As you sat beneath that bended bough
Of an ancient tree in an ancient place
Where first you saw that "That Art Thou".
Former Prince, embracing poverty,
In your search for some eternal Truth,
You devoted yourself to austerities,
"Tying knots in the air" throughout your youth.
Sacrifice at last threw open the door
To the light of higher perception;
The Cycle broke, and the way lay clear
Yet, to remain was your first conception.
To remain and serve, to point out the way,
Filled the rest of a life of difficult days.
Your duty claimed you when you realized
That God looks outward from our eyes.
