Seed
Bursting as you are upon the scene
Tendril of root up-springing
Thrusting, straining, arching – See!
You have got us all believing!
Once in reaching, ever reach
By your will your need empowered –
No one standing, here and now
Bending at the stalk of any flower
Can deny the buried seed
From attaining growing power
When it has upon its side
Strength and will at every hour –
The blooming keen and stronger grows
And steady on the stem as ever –
It is the root within the sod
It is the sun upon the lawn
It is the love of light forever
That drives the seedling on and on
