Sunlight falls in breezy dapples across your lichened stone, solace now I seek in chapel’s old yard while we’re alone. It brings my heart back, being here - love; that I remember, the autumn brings a tender tear season of September. Neath supple sways my prayerful praise I offer you a hymn; may dreams evergreen be always blessed to soulful brim. ...church bells black - they toll the hours mourning time since you’ve been gone. Losing you and laughter ours wrong side of Heaven I am on... Green leaves that sigh like grieving silk have not yet turned to red, memories sweet as mother’s milk will nurse through snows ahead. It brings my heart back, being here - love; that I remember, the autumn brings a tender tear season of September.

Dearest Crystol, your gracious visit and kind congrats are truly appreciated. Though it might look like I "never met a contest I didn't win".. lol, I adore your clever wordplay.. I have pages and pages of the dreaded N/A's from the seven years that I've been here. I would say easily more N/A's than wins. Thank God the N/A's aren't posted publicly haha! Thank you for sharing your delightful thoughts with me. They are treasured, my friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Congratulations on your win Susan! You captured well both the beauty and sorrow of memories. I particularly liked "memories sweet as mother’s milk will nurse through snows ahead" and "wrong side of Heaven I am on..."

Masterful, beautiful. The first verse is probably my favorite Susan. In just a few lines, it's descriptive, and explains the situation, creates a mood, so poetically.

Dear David, your gracious visit and lovely comments are a delight to receive. Thank you for sharing your esteemed thoughts with me. They are truly appreciated. I just read and commented on your poem It Flies.. it's beautiful and not at all "plagiaristic". We are all influenced/inspired by each other here at Soup and whatever we may read and whoever we may talk to.. inspiration shared is wonderful thing when it bears the fruits of creativity. Warmest wishes my poet friend.. ~Susan

I just wrote one I called "It flies", until I can think of a decent title. Today, my mom said she's reading a book which begins, "Now, she sits alone and remembers", plus today I read your poem. I'm sure these influenced me, I hope not "plagiaristicly" - anyway, mine's not nearly as good.

For some reason the song Danny Boy came to mind as I was reading this. Such a sad, sweet song but written so well, as your high standards dictate. A love to remember, once upon a warm September

Oh Susan the voice of your bereft love is as 'tender' as gracious as your ache. You are but on the right "side of Heaven" humming such a melodious lyric that awakens both the heart and the mind to a depth of fine feelings seeking "solace" in the embrace of a comforting Nature. Sweet brimful feelings overwhelmed my soul reading your memories of September as I am a September woman! Unique, beautiful and worth reading over and over! A great melody from the depth of your heart. A FAV. Love and hugs.
