Riding the lightening - continued
continued from part 1
Through corridors of steel and stone
Her steps begin to trace.
To face the fate that's now her own.
With dignity and grace
The guards around her, stern and tall
Yet she holds her head high.
No fear nor regret to recall.
As she prepares to die
The detective observes perturbed,
a puzzle left unsolved.
Her hidden secret, undisturbed,
his interest evolved.
He knows there's more than what she'd said.
But time begins to wane.
The truth, a burden on her head
Now lost within her pain
The chamber looms, its presence cold
A spectre of demise
Yet in her heart, a story told,
Beneath the darkened skies,
She takes her place upon the seat.
The straps hold firm and tight,
Her gaze meets death, without retreat.
As shadows cloak the light
The switch is thrown, a crackling sound.
A surge of power ignites.
And in that moment, truth is found.
Amidst the blinding lights
The news came back from the field scout,
Who cracked open the case,
Her son, he learned adopted out,
She hoped no one will trace.
And in her final fleeting breath,
A whisper of release.
The secret kept from life to death,
Now fades and finds its peace.
The crowd outside, they stand in hush.
As darkness claims the day
A woman's sacrifice, her brush
With fate, now swept away.
And in the silence that remains
A question still untold
What drove her to those dark domains?
A mystery to behold.
But in the end, she chose her path,
a mother's final plea,
to shield her son from aftermath,
of her legacy, set free.
