Restless Nights
That Starless Night by CeoldKnight
You tighten your limbs …
under a restless sky of inky midnight blue,
blotting out the stellular twinkling of once
silky seductive skies that streamed
sapphire and cerulean garlands all aglow.
These abrasive hours scrape your soul.
Like sandpaper, they rub roughly to
brittle bone, back and forth across this
weary world’s sickening silence, past
the relentless mocking of hovering ghosts.
Even crickets no longer chirp contentment
for you as smoke rises but the heavy air falls
over your skin, a weighted blanket and walls
attempting to steal your sanity.
You are smothered within shadowed crevices.
Wide-eyed, you position yourself
like a fetus in a dark womb with wishes
of drifting in dreamless sleep, only
to be awakened by the scattering
of celestial seeds that sprout in silver stems.
Your whispers catch a ride to
a sinking sky, begging the stars to shine
light into the depths of your blurry sights.
“Exhume me from this darkened existence”
you plead, “please…
pull me back from the edge of my insomnia
so that I may find myself again refreshed
in softest light of a newborn sun.”
