Residue

"Whip 'em into line!", an old phrase but still sometimes heard. In my lifetime, usually applied to recalcitrant children, but in these politically correct times, used less and less. But, I think often times still thought. I remember how easily it was once said and wonder at the brutality it implies and still does, this residue of slavery. How long it takes, for history, to relieve ourselves of our burdens, yet wonder at our violence. It is always there lurking in our rhetoric
