Poetry Reading

I listen to the young men in their black turtlenecks who spit their consonants forcefully in cryptic metaphors about the state of the world. Their work makes me think. I guess this means it is good. But I will never be one of the edgy poets. The sight of a bare tree tugs on my soul, and the stones whisper to me, and I must write about the lonely winter rain and the cherry blossoms – in softer voice, simpler words, a few lines to sketch the small, quiet wonders I so love. Your poem reflects so deeply how I feel about poetry; it seems a few lines can often say a lot more than some 'cryptic metaphors' that may end up shutting us out of the poem. That was a beautiful and most enjoyable write Agnes. A 7:) Amitiés

That is what makes the poetic world go around, the diverse talents and creativity I find here and in other places. Your poetry is always beautiful and brings nature and life in vibrant colors where some paint dark landscapes found in another part of the mind. I prefer your style though and it is nice knowing that there will always be something beautiful to see when I come to your page.

Thank you for your kindness, Chris. I think all of us have dark landscapes in us sometimes, and those need to be expressed in poetry as well.

Please please please NEVER write your poems like these "edgy" poets do. Oh they are such a bore. I adore your style. Have you ever read Sandy Adams or Monterrey Surrak(?) here at Soup. they kind of have your style and they were two of my very favorites here at Soup. You have to look them up!! LOVE this one. SEVEN

Thank you, Andrea, your support means a lot to me. I looked up the poets you recommended, could find Sandra Adams (is that "Sandy"? and I do like her work very much!) but could not locate Monterrey.

Your love of nature and life shines brightly throughout your poem. Your words are descriptive, floating onto the page with a steady hand and a splash of wit that captures the reader's imagination and attention. Great work with the magic touch of a free soaring poetic heart. Emile. #7

I so much agree with the sentiments you express in your lovely poem, Agnes. The best beauty and lessons for life are found in nature and should be expressed 'naturally'. Love your poem! 7, Hugs, Sandra

I love your comparison with the different styles and your description of the young men in their turtle necks spitting out consonants made me smile!:-) Personally I prefer poems with the beautiful imagery that I can relate to and understand - I will never be one of the 'edgy' poets its not my style - each to their own but I would never criticise and belittle someone for the way they write ... believe me it hurts badly!:-) hugs Jan xx

I performed at a poetry gig last night - all the poets who took part are humourists and it was lovely to see the audience laughing at our poetry:-) we raised money for Parkinson's and Alzehimers - the previous BIG gig at the theatre raised over £7000 this was a much smaller gig in a pub but it was great to spread the fun:-) hugs Jan xx

I went to a reading last night, and it was very interesting to see the different styles between readers. Tremendous differences. I can appreciate many different styles, but some things are just not "me". One gentlemen read from his poetry for young children, and that was most enjoyable, even though by no means it was great or profound - but an absolutely lovely introduction to poetry for five year olds. My mother in law had a saying: "All kinds make a world."

Thank you, Probir. I think we each have a personal style that we cannot change drastically; I felt drawn to similar poetry all my life, and all my favorite poets have certain features in common.
