Poetry Defined

Poetry describes the essence of living. It is the indispensable rhythm to the body of ones work. It will be left up to others to offer verdicts on the essentials that define one as a Poet...

Hi, Charlie, another fine write from your pen. I definitely love the content of this piece. The reasons why we write poetry can be so different. Have a wonderful Friday. Your friend always....Mike.

There are many reasons why people write; I think , as far as poetry is concerned, an overriding, indefinable compulsion can be the main driving force. My best regards Charlie! :) john P.s In his later years certainly I am quite sure W. B. Yeats would have most readily agreed with you.

Charlie, my fellow poet, I write to satisfy my own needs. What others think I do not concern myself with. If I did, I'd getting nothing written. Thank you for stopping by and paying me a compliment. / M

"Poetry describes the essence of living." I'm still chewing on that wisdom. Perhaps this is why poetry takes so many forms, tones, and styles - it is describing the crazy quilt of human existence. As to your second stanza, I offer a quote: "Poets are those who notice." ~ Phyllis Beckman. Glad to see you're back and I join with your friends in praying for your full recovery ~ John

Perhaps the only essential is - that we are true to ourselves and our individual poetic flow. Well said there Charles, get well soon. DMB

Just saw SO's comment below mine. Here is a prayer of enCOURAGEment, LORD in this month of prayer at our churches, we include the needs or situation of Charlie Smith. We bring these before Thy throne of Grace, for Jesus paid it all. In His worthiness, we have sought Thee at Thy Holy Throne of mercy, love, forgiveness, and healing. In the power of the Holy Trinity, we say Amen - So Be It! amein

well-said: so glad U are back SAILING MAN like Joseph Conrad, and a Man of WORDS, and books "Nostromo," "Heart of Darkness," and yet, "Tales of Unrest," and "VICTORY." We got to write and share, at the expense of rejection, because we love a LIVING LORD JESUS, who wants us to grow in ALL ways. shalom shalom Sir

We can help others with poetry’s nuances but they alone must decide its content and direction.

Oh, my dear Charlie, I've missed you, and often wondered how you were doing. I recently returned and kept looking to see if you'd posted anything I missed since last April. Well wishes for your next and last surgery. I agree with you that poetry is the rhythmical music and poets write the lyrics. Big hugs for you.
