Please Just Breathe

Insults and incitements that, not so many may utter, kills her confidence for life to taste bitter. Every mouth is busy, right in front of her, they still murmur, the damaging effect has gone beyond that of a mere rumour. A betrayer is confronted but only rubbishes with a sigh, she is ready for a head on, temper is so high. A plaintiff, a judge and a jury, she exhibits in one gasp, the soul shouts ‘attack!’ as the accuser is trapped in her grasp. Good counsel is gone, conscience may only whisper. yet, a well-mannered and cultured lady knows this is improper. To cancel such intense energy, just breathe, she counts one to ten, reaching calm, her sword, no need to seethe.

Funom, wonderful write and I can relate to your poem as I was bullied as a kid because I am part Ojibwe. Kids would call me Indian Princess but not in a nice way and made other racial comments and I wanted to get revenge until I had the strength to walk away. My father told me "the better person walks away from a fight". From then on when they snarled at me Indian Princess I would smile and say thank you ~ peace and tranquility _Constance

Oh dear... I am so sorry for your experience, you are lucky to have such a wonderful dad who is not only supportive but good. I am glad you survived that phase of your life. Continue to be the Princess and Queen that you are. Thank you so much for your comment. It is highly encouraging.

This poem expresses so well what was on people’s minds, let alone his family. We waited with bated breath to breathe again. Excellent work Funom! I have been away over nine months which is why you haven’t seen a comment. I tried to comment on POTD and week but my heart just wasn’t in poetry after the loss of my husband. It is great to be back. Blessings xxoo

I think the Nation collectively held its breath. With a proper verdict it can now take a deep breath.

Yes, we must breathe so we don’t breathe out all the sediment of our heart. We must formulate our cause. Good one, Funom!

A superb write Funom, being oppressed by a vicious tongue is wrong and the emotional effects last so long. It’s good advice to just breathe, count to ten and bid the aggressor leaves... Belle

An excellent poem, wonderfully expressed. I love the idea of calm being one's sword. The last two lines are my favorites. :)
