I remember that I once called him Peter Pan The man I loved, and yet a child at heart to me A name that became vividly more portending at pretending than I ever could've imagined. A lost boy I found long ago, or did he find me? No need for Tinkerbelle's pixie dust because he flew with me as his Darling,* to quell his sadness but in taking it from him, I began losing myself. He tried to escape his nemesis, the Captain's hook, but too many walks along the pirate ship's plank proved to be a daunting task he kept undertaking. I kept trying to rescue him but he wouldn't swim. He was drifting far out to sea; drowning in the drink. I called his name but no sight of him was I able to see. Peter Pan was lost again, and this time also to me. Never Never Land is a place I won't be visiting again. *Wendy Darling

Sink or swim Lin, you would no doubt have got dragged under by him, alcoholism and addiction are the ruination of many a relationship and life, I love the Peter Pan analogy, it works so well taking the poem from fairytale to reality, brilliant cheers David

I was sinking as if life was quick sand. Thanks for liking the way I presented this one in an analogy, David.

Dearest Lin, your poem beautifully captures the bittersweet journey of love and loss, echoing the timeless tale of Peter Pan. I love the imagery of Peter's inner struggle intertwined with your own; it is deeply moving. Your words convey the complexities of trying to save someone while losing yourself in the process. It's the sacrifices we make for love and the pain of letting go. What a heartfelt reflection, Lin. - Blessings, Daniel

Dear Daniel, it was a time of deep turmoil; a struggle to stay or go until I knew there was only one right thing to do. Many years and apologies from him later, we've mended what I thought was a lost relationship. Mending it has closed the door to our past so that we've become friends once again. Thank you for putting your thoughts into words that gave me gooseflesh, even though the sorrow was 12 years ago, the healing is recent.

A riveting exploration of the human condition, how addiction sends a soul off into a private Neverland. You continue to solicit familiar characters in your poetic play so brilliantly dear Lin, they become so obedient to the script created by your pen.

Thank you, Paul. So far, my ink has been able to capture my thoughts in its flow. One day, or once upon a time, I may not be able to keep it in tow. lol I appreciate your visits and reviews.

Nicely thought of using a Peter Pan analogy of a relationship you tried saving but had no control of. Your words take an interesting reality on drinking, bringing in a sad truth of how it affects others, and how you will never visit there again. Life has sad consequences knowing when to walk away is vital. You knew when. Hugs Lin

Thanks ever so much for reading me and leaving your comments, Michael. All's well now for what ended in sorrow. After years, we're friends.

a tumultuous relationship cleverly veiled in the story of Peter Pan. Addiction (of any kind) wreaks havoc on a relationship which you described so profoundly. "He was drifting out to sea drowning in the drink." Your words were poignant, powerful, and compassionate. Well done, Lin!! Wishing you a pleasant evening, hugs, Sara

Much enjoyed. Very clever, I recall some years ago, in Nottingham one Christmas, David Hasselhoff, stared as Captain Hook on stage. I bet he was phenomenal. I could just imagine it. pity I didn't get to see him perform, well done. Pete.
