Pandemonium At the Kumbh

Peaceful was the gathering of the multitudes A gathering of saints and common humanity Nirvana sought or perhaps only interludes Driving their demons, seeking some sanity Every twelve years the Great Kumbh was held Making this the largest confluence of souls Offering themselves with Godhead to meld Nascent whispers arose of mischievous moles Irrational panic soon was ignited Unknown fear raised its ugly head Mighty stampede leaving many dead ~28 Jul 2016~

These gatherings/festivals sometimes tend to get out of hand, especially because of the large number of people present and groups vying for precedence. You have given a vivid picture of the Great Kumbh, Karam! // paul

Thank you, Paul. In India these spectacular religious gatherings occur on a regular basis.Besides twelve-year Kumbhs (Maha Kumbhs) there are the "pushkars" - other river gatherings which occur ever year year or so. India perhaps has the largest number of "holy dips" in all of the world - rivers are considered holy and a dip at a holy spot is said to wash off one's sins. The baptism is perhaps a symbolic dip, too. ~karam~

Thank you, Skat. The Kumbh Mela is an awesomely amazing event when millions of people gather to wash their sins in the holy rivers of India. It is indeed a grand spectacle where stamoedes do take place leading to deaths if many. ~karam~
