Overwhelming Darkness
Panic as I open my eyes to a new world.
Leaving the path of seeing and hearing,
into this frightened bundle of humanity.
Tried reaching out to feel the air,
Cannot even hear the sounds of living.
Fear of the dark was closing in on me
Hated to be in small closed rooms
Sweat pored out of every pore
Throat was closing mainly thirst
but a great deal of it was fright
Then a soft nose nuzzled my arm,
My dog realising my fright is saying," I am here."
Darkness lifted a shade
I smiled, at last, some normality reigned.
Remembered.....where I was and why
Was in a broken down lift,
Pressed the emergency button
No Response.
That was what seemed like days ago
Pitch black and sound proof
No one heard and I couldnt see.
Drifted off to sleep awoke with a jolt,
As the lift door was prised open.
Had been trapped for 24 hours.
Blessed relief to have been rescued.
No more lifts for me for a long time .
