Only Hope

Only Hope I’m an old man, but not as old as I was. I have a friend, my best friend, older than I am but older than he is, who is slowly yet surely killing himself. How do I say to him that I’ll be with him on his journey, that I don’t judge his choices? How do I thank him for being with me on my journey? What will I do when he is no longer a companion through life? Can love accompany passage into the void, the furnace of cremation, the scattering of the ashes? I have no answers. Only hope.

Touching ending. It's hard to think about losing someone dear. You express yourself well. I enjoyed reading some of your work. Always, Laura

It's literally a friend I'm concerned about, not myself. But thanks for the good thoughts... Jack

Jack, this poem means much to me. I am at my wits ends looking for answers... Something about your ending brightened up this moment. I'm not gonna lie. I don't remember what hope feels like. I will search. I'm sorry, I better go now... I think I hit something within myself... xox~ LINDA

It's a sad situation indeed. I wish I could do something to counter his death wish, but I can't. I've tried... Jack
