Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time here on earth Before the dinosaurs or Eden, for what it's worth I lived a life that you n'er can ken Which is why I've never spoken of then. 'Tis hard to describe a scene so lush That its fertile blooms entwined could make swingers blush And birds sang together in perfect chords While bees hummed along, not knowing the words. And people, like me, had legs, wings and fin Easily to from land, air, and water dip in And we didn't need mirrors to see our allure Today's judgment and shame makes me so sad, for sure. Did I tell you that four suns shown bright in our sky? And their light bounced like prisms off our wings as we'd fly? And the rainbow of colors made the trees bend and sway To get the best view of the magic each day. And the air, it was clean, and the sky without end But the water was by far my favorite, my friend. It had form, rising up in a beautiful sphere But faceted like diamonds and perfectly clear. And if my friend were across the sea I could see her as if she were right next to me And both fish and mammals that dwelled in that space Could converse with us, and even served snacks at their place. The animals included species you've heard of today But I'm so sad to see how they've changed, I must say. Our horses had wings, but we never would ride! Dogs and cats independent and so dignified! The food you ask? Oh I drool just to think!! The berries so blue, grapefruits so pink We never consumed any meat, fowl or fish Why would you cook up a friend as a dish? But the air always smelled like a Thanksgiving pie! The salads so fresh the crunch made some birds fly. Peach nectar, fresh tea, juices squeezed from the vine And never a wait in a grocery line! There never was sickness, no one ever died I can't recall a time that in sadness I cried Not like today, in this Home now that I'm All alone except for "Once Upon a Time." So many changes have changed and have changed. The evolving tuition's have all been arranged. The time has arrived and arrived and arrived. So many yesterday's repeatedly contrived. The signs have been read and the readers now dead. Now it's our turn to say what's been said.
