Night Burns

When night burns starless like a tomb, shadow exults the dark and gloom. Our souls hone fears sharp as a blade, and every path holds certain doom. To dare a trek on nights thus made all rue in heart their fool's crusade. Through shadowed vestige, mute and still all dreams of past and future fade. Fainthearted now, we lack the will to slow our heart, to mount the hill, where specters sing their doleful tune, and dread alone makes one's blood chill. Dark, boundless night would have us swoon, so pray that safety comes, and soon. When souls feel trapped by shadows dire we cast our hopes upon the moon. The moon sustains as twilight's fire, it tarries until dusk expire. When sunlight ends the night's deep mire, we'll share new hope by dawn's bright pyre. ~~~Night Burns~~~

A coffee sounds great but I was so hoping for a Corvette, oh well. Have a great day Brian.

We have several Corvette events in South Dakota each summer. People who are dedicated to the love of a beautiful automobile! There's nothing like a 'vette. I will get you one after I get a Harley, LOL. Have a great day.

That's embarrassing, really as these are all on file on my home and the work computer and all I have to do is transcribe correctly. That is what it was. You have saved my bacon about three times now. If we ever meet in person, I owe you a coffee.

Third stanza consider "dread alone makes one's blood chill" for some reason the word "along" causes my brain to snag in that spot spoiling the lovely rhythm of this excellent piece.

Yes, Richard, I am the guy you met at a dinner gathering that left his fly open and was the life of the party until he got home and realized he was advertising all night. Too bad I can't blame it on the keys. Glad you read for detail.

Richard, you have caught me in another spelling error. And, honest to God, when I started this reply I spelled your name Richared. There is no hope.................and thanks again, it should read alone!

This is simply excellent, Brian, and I'm afraid I'm going to have it as a fave, and print and frame it for my poem wall. And you're not getting it back. Ever. So there. a 7+ Regards, Viv

Thanks, Viv. I have a different perspective on nights now that I work overnights in a group home. I have worked graveyard shift about ten years at different times but now I think I know better where our childhood fears and such come from. Thanks again, for reading, my friend. I will be in touch.
