We love fireworks on special occasions but it frightens our pets. Never take your dog out when you go to see them. My neighbor's did that and the dog was so scared he took off running and it took them days to find him..

I let my dogs out at midnight, And sat down to write. There was an explosion outside, And my dogs tried to hide. They hit the back door raising a fuss. "Mom! Let us in! They're shooting at us!" I opened the door, saw their reason for fear. The town shot off fire works to encourage good cheer. They lit up the sky as I watched from my deck, With my dogs close beside me craning their necks. As a rainbow of color filled up the air, I said "Don't be afraid boys. Happy New Year.

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

Pyrotechnics for special occasions are allowed and fireworks for religious reasons only in South Africa, otherwise there would be a fine. I must admit as long as Fireworks are let off far from animals i do enjoy them.l Hope 2024 is a good year for you Judy, Blessings, JENNIFER.

Beauty and reality perfectly blended in flowing rhyme Judy! I like the couplet form as you tell this slice of life on New Year's Eve - engaging. Two of our Wheatens hated fireworks while our current Wheaten and one other look at fireworks with complete dis-interest! Enjoyed this poem taking me back to many a New Year's Eve celebration. Health, happiness and blessings!

Aw, so cute! We try to get our boy prepared a bit ahead of time, out to potty and his play before the fireworks start sounding off. He tries to protect us from them, barking and telling whoever to stop it this minute, he does the same to thunder :) He enjoys hearing music and staying in a bedroom with his toys and avoiding the hullabaloo. It is so sad for pets during the 4th of July or New Years, so many get so afraid they run away and are lost. I'm glad your boys were able to calm down :) <3

Thank you so much Ink Empress. Nice to hear from you. I have always found the fireworks beautiful but to some they are bombs going off. It sure scares the dogs and cats. I think we got the fireworks tradition from China. They are the ones who invented gun powder. God Bless and Happy New Year, JB God Bless and Happy New Year, JB

I always listen if my dogs become fearful or start growling for no reason. There is always a reason. Usually just someone outside but that means there WAS someone outside. They are very smart and take their job as guardians very seriously. Thank you so much. God Bless and Happy New Year. JB
