My Wedding Dress

Today’s the date I married, Many, many moons ago. My wedding dress was long and white; In back, there was a bow. It wasn’t from a bridal shop; I’d purchased it alone. There was one I’d liked much better So I’d searched to find a phone. I called my mom, describing both; The other one was green, To match my boyfriend’s 3 piece suit. Though I was torn between, My mother’s voice had not one doubt. In fact, she almost hissed, “You have to get the white one,” All my arguments dismissed. In pictures, we are smiling And the white dress that I wore Looked more bridal, but not better Than the one left at the store.

Your poem brings back memories. My mother instisted that my hair not be french braided at my wedding. Her face blanched at the word. I hate my hair in my wedding pictures 26 years later, it was old and farty. Your original green dress and your fiance's remind me of those we wore to the prom in the 80'2. Remember those? They are so silly to look at now I think. This poem was darling. I enjoyed the memories it brought back.

What a delightful story my friend. I wonder, if you had gone green, would you still feel the same way about the white one?

Reminds me of that saying, mom's know best. Who can argue with that. Tom

Funny how mothers take over the weddings. I have concluded that the wedding is more their thing than the brides. Too bad you couldn't have had both dresses.

Hehe …if your mum hadn't been so adamant would you have bought the green dress Ilene? Debx

Looking back can be fun, Ilene. Especially when you realize that it made no difference in the long run. Had you gotten married in blue jeans, you'd be just as married and just as happy:) A fun one!
