Musical Pantoum

Do you remember when a day felt like a year and stealing from the cookie jar was the biggest crime? We'd gaze up at constellations, both far and near, whilst catching fireflies, come May or June ... wasting time. And stealing from the cookie jar was the biggest crime, knowing heavenly eyes were watching from the clouds. Whilst catching fireflies, come May or June, wasting time; never letting dreams be dreams --- yet look at me now! Knowing heavenly eyes were watching from the clouds, adrift, I became, refusing to let go of childhood, never letting dreams be dreams. Yet look at me now - trying to find the conclusion to the phrase: If I could ... Adrift, I became, refusing to let go of childhood: a time where no matter what, we were better together. Trying to find the conclusion to the phrase: If I could, but no use, I'm in a cocoon, fearful of the weather. A time where no matter what, we were better together, gazing up at the same holes to heaven, finding comfort. But no use, I'm in a cocoon, fearful of the weather, afraid my tears will turn into a monsoon, causing hurt. Gazing up at the same holes to heaven. Finding comfort by looking up, because there was no other way. Afraid my tears will turn into a monsoon, causing hurt, sitting, waiting, wishing, for a reason to stay. By looking up because there was no other way - just the nighttime sky, hanging so high, and you and your heart. Sitting, waiting, wishing, for a reason to stay in the present. My little girl takes me back to the start --- Just the nighttime sky, hanging so high, and you and your heart; we'd gaze up at constellations, both far and near. In the present, my little girl takes me back to the start: do you remember when a day felt like a year? All the song titles used are by one of my favorite artists, Jack Johnson: 1. Do You Remember 2. Cookie Jar 3. Constellations 4. Wasting Time 5. From the Clouds 6. Dreams Be Dreams 7. Adrift 8. If I Could 9. Better Together 10. Cocoon 11. Holes To Heaven 12. Monsoon 13. No Other Way 14. Sitting, Waiting, Wishing 15. You and Your Heart 16. My Little Girl Written for Silent's Musical Pantoum Contest.

Timothy, I guess Andrea's question (right below my comment) has been answered... He's baaaack... (funny, all 3 of us got a 2nd place in this). Had to go look at this after you commented on my pantoum today. I will have to go to youtube and get to know Jack Johnson. I've heard OF him, does that win me any points? (...didn't think so). Anyway, great pantoum, not easy to do, and a VERY belated congratulations in Silent One's contest. Extra points to you for reading through all the comments!

Amazing work, Timothy. I loved how you incorporated the thoughtful, relaxing and clever songs of Jack Johnson into this. "adrift, I became, refusing to let go of childhood, never letting dreams be dreams. Yet look at me now - trying to find the conclusion to the phrase: If I could ..." That's one of my favorite moments of this piece, Timothy. I'm faving this beauty. It's brilliant. Jack would be proud. Always, Laura

Awwww thanks Laura. Despite his popularity, not everyone has heard of him ... happy you're a fan as well. It's not often you find an artist that's both very easy going as well as containing deep lyrics, in many songs.

Gosh it must have taken an age to format the poem so it flows so beautifully - I think this is one challenge I won't be undertaking... but I am off work next week so i will see if the muse goes into overdrive! Good luck in the contest:-) hugs Jan xx

Wow! You are a glutton for punishment, Timothy!:) This must have been time consuming, but the end result proves you right!! I have to admit that I'm not acquainted with Jack Johnson, so I checked him up; I understand why he's one of your fav artists! // paul

"glutton for punishment" .... ha ha ... yes, this one was rather frustrating to pull off, but I'm happy I pulled through! I find it hard to be in a bad mood with Jack Johnson's music ... his style is always so relaxed.

FANTASTIC, Timothy. THis has to take a good few hours to assemble, doesn't it? I know it would take ME about that long. I will try to use an artist who has TONS of songs. that way I can have lots of great choices!!! Thanks for my splendid win in that very interesting contest!! I am so happy the idea I had came to me.

Great work Tim. More effort than I own to even consider this form. Too restrictive for my taste. It pains me even to read it. But you, my lad, have mastered it. Good luck in the contest...

Thanks for the compliments, Charlie ... I don't think pantoum is too bad, but arranging these song titles was time-consuming, let me tell you!

It is difficult to be in a bad mood, listening to him. Thanks for visiting me today ... pleased, we have similar tastes in music :)

Nicely said in a difficult (tedious, at least to me) form. Not at all into contemporary music, except during high school. Poem about beach walks is true. I still live near the Atlantic, and I plan to walk the beach there again this summer, but only when the tourists leave. In summer the place reminds me of a seal rutting colony! Thanks for the stop. / M

Your lucky to live so close to the beach ... I've always lived more inland. Pantoum isn't too difficult, in my opinion ... what was tedious for me was arranging those song titles into a coherent theme!
