MOTHER

When all alone, quiet, and lost in thought,

I see again the times when I was young.

I smile for attention I often sought,

Knowing if I was sad then you would come.

You would dry the teardrops that then would flow,

Be my bedside nurse on a restless night.

A soothing word and I'd forget my woe,

Consoled that you were not far from my sight.

Your wrath confused me when I misbehaved,

Never believing I was ever wrong.

But now I see love through your stormy rage.

With your wise words I have grown, oh so strong.

So when I think of you, Mother and friend,

All regrets are over, all sorrows end.

Ken, in the eyes of the child, a mother's love is everything beautiful.. in the eyes of the adult child, a mother's love is awe-inspiring.. A moving sonnet rich in love, beauty and admiration.. Congratulations on your wonderful win and I'm so pleased I had the chance to read your lovely poem. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Oh the love that fills this, that even in comfort or discipline, a mother loves so strongly to shape a child into a good person. It is an everlasting love and bond. This is very good. congrats

As a mom of a young daughter, your poem moved me. I do hope you gift this sonnet to your mom. I am fairly certain it will gain you 'cookie points' Smiles from Cyndi and congrats on your placement

Thanks. Actually it was written in about 1996. Took a Shakespeare sonnet as a template and worked on it until right. My mum's has had it in several birthday, xmas and mothers day cards. Entered it for one of the contests on here although I entered before I looked at the picture subject.
