~ my warmest bonding moment ever with a pet ~
It was a mid-December night
In the wee hours
The house was dead quiet
With the flick of a switch
The Christmas tree
Came to life in all its splendor
That’s when Mooney
Trudged along with an awkward gait
Graceful days long gone
Showing signs of a long life
Hurting with something
Maybe nothing but age
I couldn’t sleep
So I sat up by the tree
Calling the cat to my lap
She came in total surrender
This would surely be
Her last Christmas
We sat there her and I
Both knowing the end was near
And precious moments such as these
May be few and far between
The late night snowfall
Made the scene so surreal
This is surely what heaven is like
Souls melding without a word
