Milton Creek was waking up and outside it was snowing And from the Sierra Nevada a strong wind was blowing Mayor Tom had arranged a meeting for that same afternoon And the venue was in the upstairs room in Jenna's saloon. Tom had an envelope that contained Milt's will and last testament The council looked bewildered and wondered what it meant Tom opened the envelope and read it out loud and clear "To my friends in Soup Creek, this will bring you some cheer". "My colt forty fives I leave to Sheriff Koplin; my Winchester to Jenna All my poetry books and my two bibles , I leave to Deb and Tania The paintings I leave to our mayor to hang on his office wall And the biggest asset I owned, ' Aces' hotel I leave to you all". "Not forgetting Ranger David and new Deputy Terry I leave them my two horses Bold Bess and Be Merry" There was silence as everyone took in what Tom had said They still couldn't get over the fact their good friend was dead. Jenna said, "the hotel will need a manager who knows what they're doin' And I know just the girl , it's my good friend Pinkerton Lin" Jenna added " I'll ask her later; we're meeting at Anaya's for tea Who's just opened a new restaurant St Milt's, a Mexican eatery". "I'll offer her the manager's job and I'm sure she'll agree Because she told me earlier, she was leaving Pinkertons agency She's had enough of tracking lowlifes and wants to settle down And from what's she's been saying has fallen in love with our town". Jenna went to Anaya's and Lin was already there She called out to Jenna and told her to pull up a chair Jenna wasted no time and asked Lin to be the manager of 'Aces' Hotel And from the expression on Lin's face, it was a yes, she could tell. Meanwhile Deputy Michael had returned and handed in his star Because he was now a lawyer and had qualified for the bar He'd been horrified by some of the things that he saw All because Milton Creek folks had no clue about the law. Michael vowed he'd stamp out illegal building of any kind Anyone breaking the law would get a piece of his mind Sheriff Koplin was happy because often his hands were tied Now offenders would be brought before the court and tried. So now Milton Creek has a new manager of' Aces' hotel And a top lawyer in Michael and we wish them both well Of all the booming towns springing up in the American West The mayor and all the townsfolk aim to make Milton Creek the best. Ranger David and Deputy Terry headed over to see wrangler Rob He knew all about horses and certainly knew his job He saddled up Bold Bess and Be Merry ready for a ride David and Terry weren't put off that it was still snowing outside. WoW! Tom, You are an amazing story teller. What a good tribute to Milt. Taking a line from your poem” I can't believe he’s dead”. He was a good man and poet. The soup” Milton Creek” won’t be the same with out him. He will be missed. Congratulations on getting the poem and of the day. It was well deserved-Alexis

Erm… have I just become a walking poem… “Hey, here comes Terry on his horse Be Merry”. I can live with that. Don’t suppose Milt left me a few dollars to feed his horse, did he? Of course, if Be Merry is not yet fully grown, I’ll soon be needing a few dollars more, maybe even a fistful of dollars. Great update on the phenomenon of Milton Creek, Tom.

O to be remembered like this, Tom: Milt must be overwhelmed with emotion if that is possible in heaven. There can be no greater honor than the remembrance of friends. Wonderful POTD. Always enjoy reading them. I offer my services as a Jillaroo to exercise Bold Bess and Be Merry if needed, Ha ha SuZ PS. Jillaroo’s are the tough cowgirls of Australia

Tom, your stories about Soup Creek, now Milton Creek, are so sweet. I also love your picture of Milton Creek :) I wish to ride into town sometimes, and hope to outrun the steam engine with my beautiful stallion pulling me and my family at a fast clip along in the carriage, racing to spring! I can't wait for spring and the joys of Milton Creek poets writing about the new blooms and blooming barrel cacti as we leave behind the winter cold! I'm so happy to have found this community! I <3 your story poems!

Thank you very much BJ, I'm happy you are enjoying them, never in a million years did I think people would enjoy the continuing saga of Soup Creek and when Milt passed I changed the name in his honour because he loved being a part of it. Watch this space because more will follow, now that we have a track and its own station who knows what characters will arrive in the iron horse. Tom

Thank you very much Valsa, to be honest I didnt think it would take off like it has but I know many are enjoying the saga of Milton Creek. I saw Milt as one of the founding fathers and renaming the town after him was a no brainer. Glad you enjoyed it. Tom

As an animal lover, I will be proud to shoulder the responsibility for caring and attending to the needs, both physically and emotionally, (especially Milt's Bold Bess and Be Merry), for the town's horses and whatever livestock and stray critters come along. I'm sure Milt would be proud of the way you're honoring him. Congratulations Tom, on POTD! Wrangler Rob, happy trails!
