Midnight Hour

midnight hour... this sky is as full as my mind as i sit here trying to connect stars like thoughts i can almost hear you in the whisper of winds filling the voids of loneliness in temporary stifled breaths as they rise and fall around me i can almost see you breaking through shadows as they dance on walls beneath the iridescence of this moon peering in at me through this window as if staring into my soul through passageways of time to close my eyes would make you mine even if only momentarily i long to feel your lips brush against mine in a blush of passion feel your hands caress the edges of my existence draw your scent into my final breaths before drifting to sleep yet i sit here watching time beat faster than my own heart as the midnight hour slowly wanes with loneliness knowing either way ..."I am the master of my fate" 02/04/2020 Famous poetic lines 2 Sponsored by Silent One "I am the master of my fate" William Ernest Henley

I feel the yearning and the helplessness.. to be honest this poem seems like you have to lose something to gain something... albeit you are the master of that fate... Congratulations on your first place in the contest..

I think experiencing loss helps us with many things...to lose love one learns to love better I think... thank you so much for your kind comment and the honor of a win as well as another wonderful contest hosted! hugs

Sometimes life points us the other way and the lips never meet. Unrequited love though always feels heart breaking. Kind wishes, Kai

Sandra, I am always amazed at how this emotive poetry just flows from your pen time and time again, each time with rich meaning, evocative words, and memorable phrasing (I love "as if staring into my soul through passageways of time"). By the way, should there be a 'to' before 'feel your lips'? So sorry to rain my unsolicited edit on your beautiful parade... warm hugs ~ John

Way to work that quote right into the fabric of the poem, even though it doesn't appear 'till the close. :) Gershon

Loneliness is so painful. How sad that she can't put this lost love out of her mind. It's the only way to begin again. You offered a great interpretation of the theme, Sandra. I have been stuck in the past for years and can relate. Best wishes in Silent One's contest! Hugs, Carolyn

I think you're right, Sandra. Our past experiences are reflected in our poetry. It takes great skill to paint emotions they way you did in this poem.

Thank you so much Carolyn. I have a way of painting emotion even if they are not current emotions ... I think we all have a part of our past that comes through it glimpses every now and then :) hugs

Thank you so much Chris...I was set to write with the Shakespeare quote, my computer crashed finally so writing took longer and I had read many with that quote so I didn't want it to cloud my thinking and went on a separate course with this line... hugs

Although I'm not familiar with Henley, I like how you finished your verse with that line from his poem. Well written Sandra. Tom
