Midnight Chime

the vibration of the violin fading to the timbre of voices upon the stage midnight hour slowly chiming in as the bartender pours another drink her lipstick slowly kisses the edges as she sips away her pain she sees her lover in the reflection of mind paling with every sip she downs another as his face becomes a mirage in the haze she remembers his touch his scent his kiss his words as he walked away surely just one more will make him disappear from memory she orders another as he walks in the dimly lit room with a woman wrapped in the curls of his arms his eyes catch hers with the look of regret she can't see past the pain but doesn't let him see instead she smiles as she sets her drink aside and kisses the bartender goodnight she walks away casting silhouettes like shadows on the sidewalks as her pain subsides with the tempo of night's zephyr she exhales a sigh as the mist of darkness traces the contours of her face like a fog lifting her breath rises as she smiles with the same fullness as this moon illuminating the night feb 21, 2020 clueless as to where this came from....

Wherever it came from, it's a classic C&W ballad. Just right for my favorite country singer on my favorite country station. Thanks! ~ Gershon

Tales of endless repeats, whereto, an independent party lends more than an ear and permits her a gift of a noticeable and vengeful kiss, another perfect bitty, Sandra, loving them! -- Aloha!~@wk

Well done my friend--this story is true to life. I was thinking she would do something crazy, being under the influence (well she kissed the bartender)--instead she shows courage to just walk away. Excellent poetry, as always, Sandy.

Thank you Vijay... i didn't set out to write this, the first couple lines was in my head as i wanted to write for a contest but my muse does her own thing sometimes... the ending i did give a little thought to though once i sat and read what i wrote... hugs :)

Wow, lucky bartender. : ) This was really well written Sandy. I could picture this through the smoky haze of this bar. I could feel her heart breaking but her strength taking command of the situation and placing that smile on her face...but I can also feel her tears once the door closes behind her. Really nicely done.

Thanks Chris...i have no clue where this one came from i was looking at a contest to enter, sat to write and my muse kind of went in a path that left me wondering where she dug that up.. not a drinker, not a bar person but glad you enjoyed it... hugs
