Mating Season

She meandered through new spring grass, startling bugs shortening their lives, taking her fill seemingly unimpressed with grandeur displayed solely for her benefit. His swagger almost took him airborne, his tail feathers spread into a fan of splendor his princely prance seemingly not even a blip on her view Our appearance on the scene assured his utmost strut, trumpeting at us as we laughed and mocked his silly gobble Yet his strategy succeeded She now sits on her nest at the edge of the yard under the hickory tree, just beyond where the mower runs

Hi Cona. This is a great poem that made me laugh. This wonderful dance takes many forms with many species. You have brought us the scene in a delightful way and I truly enjoyed it...... Robert.

Knowing that Thanksgiving was on the way, he probably decided to ensure that his linage should remain yet another day! I enjoyed this poem. The imagery and humor were well penned.

Thank you, Milton. Yes, and he's still around. Hubby says that he has probably been run out of the group we watched all last summer by the older and stronger Toms. But, he's nobody's fool. He brought a hen with him.

Interesting presentation. Leaves one to somehow guess exactly what you're trying to say, but I think I get it...

It's the first time we've ever had a wild turkey approach our house and bring his mate to roost on our back deck. It's been very interesting and fun to watch. We believe it's his first season as a mature bird, so it has been a lot of fun to watch him display and strut for the hen's benefit.

Thanks, Clara. That turkey has been around for days, parking himself on our back porch (deck) and staring through the glass at the cats, not to mention gobbling at me.

Thank you, Jan. Tom Turkey is not in the least worried about us. He walked up on the back deck and looked through the back glass doors. The cat and the turkey simply sat there and looked at each other.

Thank you, Kim. There may be another poem in this bird. He's now roosting on our back deck. Not the least bit timid, he strutting around like he owns the place!

Thank you, Ilene. I think Tom is here to stay, at least until his "babies" hatch. I can see that I will need to take a stick with me when I go out to work in the yard. Maybe the fallen seed from the bird feeder on the back deck has give him a source of free food, which he now sees as his duty to guard. He's very funny.
