Man In the Turquoise Hat
See the guy in the turquoise hat? I stare but do not know him.
You know him!
I am sure I do not.
He is the guy that did that thing over in Greene county.
He stares at me as I stare at him, our eyes lock. I feel uncomfortable.
Don’t stare at him!
Too late. I am mesmerized now. Stuck in staring mode.
Irritated with my friend.
She leaves, and I wander over. Do I know you? I ask him.
He smiles. Sit down. I do, and we have a fabulous time.
I heard what she said he tells me. I am embarrassed now.
It was my brother, he assures me. I do not do things like that.
If I did, would I wear this hat?
I relax, feeling a weight slide off my back.
Meet him for lunch many other days.
To hear his story, and comfort him as I have my own errant brother.
