Love's Illusion

Love is but an illusion,
a fantasy
that often seems surreal.
A sensual ploy
to steal a kiss,
and exploit intimate feelings.
Lovers in a sexual rut
shed no tears,
for the other's pain.
Passion's flame
burns hotter than fire,
and then, reality kicks in.
And those feelings end
when trust falls apart,
chasing shadows
cast by neon lights.
For what is love
but a promise of bliss,
garnered from a whispered lie?
