Listen to poem:
Late-night perfumes waft and swirl,
circling me like the petals and pearls
that drape upon my shoulders.
Ephemeral, their scents transpose,
one by one by one, then fade like
the sweet taste of kisses.
I look up and I see the Moon,
the Moon, the Moon tonight, the Moon far up tonight,
far up in this dark sky … the Moon!
She’s there, silently watching while
playing her tricks; seeming further away
by the minute; coyly performing a slow retreat.
But her face is cold
and I begin to freeze as I surrender
to her charade.
High and aloof and bright and cold,
far off in the distance,
the Moon plays her endless game
with my heart.
