Let's Make the Day

A warm day Escaping the heat and noise of the City We went upcountry Crowded car Loud radio Joyous noise Open conversation Following a long line of other cars On a narrow highway We, and like minded strangers Travelling in an impromptu caravan. Parked in a gravel lot Slate blue stones crunching under our feet Getting out of the car We stretch As a mother lets her child feel her stomach For the unborn safe in her womb Seeing a well worn path up ahead We follow its gentle curve Walking into a forest of deep green Leaving soft footprints in the grass Children running up ahead Seemingly lost among the tress Their laughter echoing in the freshness of nature’s home. The day was beautiful The kind that you wish would never end We spoke as we walked Shared news with one another Dream, ambitions and yes even some complaints Wistfully we knew that good days Like good friends come infrequently Lingering, we look ahead Past the soft billowy clouds Searching the sky For reminders of what we are And who we are.
