Let Beauty Lie
Where beauty lies, let beauty lie –
Let not the rose from where it lies
In beauty be disturbed – Let not
The bed on which it lies be touched
By sordid hand or sordid thought –
And let the sun it seeks be sought
In gardens where it thrives and not
Through window panes with broken heart
For beauty knows the bloom it holds
Is manifested in the rose
Which lies pristine within its bloom
And blooms where beauty ought to bloom
Secure in gardens where it lies
– Let beauty lie where beauty lies
