I Winter In Fallen Ash Of Burnt Dreams I winter in fallen ash of burnt dreams an armadillo, shell removed eyes blinded. As time crawls on, midnight moon proudly beams by its hollow glow, heart is reminded this world operates with dark and wicked teams. Sinking naked form into blacken earth sad prisoner of this world's raging decay. As evil winds from hell howl out their worth others cry begging, let them have their way man is truly cursed since before his birth. Lo! Raging storms lay true romance to waste spilled wine seeps and grapes rot on withering vines. True, chosen few approve of its new taste even honesty must pay heavy fines both life and sweetest hope are sold like toothpaste. I winter in fallen ash of burnt dreams an armadillo, shell removed eyes blinded. As time crawls on, midnight moon proudly beams by its hollow glow, heart is reminded this world generates more dark and wicked teams. Robert J. Lindley, Rhyme, (Dark Poetry, Sorrow's Basket)..

My dear friend, thank you for your wonderful and very kind comment. With this one I felt first stanza and its depth, imagery and emotion deserved to be presented again to drive home the sense of epic loss , sorrow and massive darkness that rules this world.. Did you notice the slight word change (but important) made in fifth verse in the repeated stanza?

I agree with Jennifer's comment, in that this dark philosophical write has a Shakespearean atmosphere-" even honesty must pay heavy fines..." And to feel so exposed, like an armadillo without its protective armour, leaves one feeling under threat of attack from "more dark and wicked teams..." A powerful and tragic poem. Warm regards, AM. Take care, Robert- you are much loved here on PS!

Thank you my great friend. Your very kind words cheer an old poet's aging heart. I truly hope this poem illustrates the depths of heart and personal experience that poets should write about and thus share with others. With my knowing how hard it is to expose oneself and admit past loss, mistakes and failures in life. But truth in poetry is a must, IMHO.

Nette my friend, your reading and your reply are truly and very deeply appreciated. This is a heavily edited version of a much older poem written long ago. Back when youth graced these limbs, love so thrilled this heart and life had such deep and longing promises in regards to romance and the immense powers and beauty of love.

My dear friend, with stunning imagery, your impressive pen expresses the darkness and sorrow of a deeply aching heart. To be dreamless is to be blinded and when evil winds howl and true romance is laid to waste by raging storms, one's heart is left to the machinations of evil.. oh what sad beauty your mighty pen wields, Robert. An absolute gem that sparkles with your talent and a fav! Warmest wishes always, my wonderful friend.. ~Susan

Thank you Tom, I have had the misfortune to be receiver of some of these dark and very sad experiences. As a young man my life was anything but calm , boring and peaceful.

Hi Robert, A deep, dark poem within which little or no light is revealed but where evil lurks awaiting its chance to pounce on vulnerable victims and where natural disastrous are unfolding rapidly, and pollution is suffocating us. A Shakespearean work of art. Best wishes and poetry hugs Jennifer
