I Saw a Grackle

Listen to poem:
Today, I saw a grackle (fam. Icteridae) -- a common sight -- braving the wind atop a post among parked (and moving) cars. Feathers ruffled in the gusty air, it was not spooked by movement, engine noise, or human presence. It seemed to me to make a show of avian bravado; but, in truth, it could not ever know what mischief might be wrought, purposely or not, upon such creatures by other creatures (such as us.)

So so aesthetic. There is an imagist feel to this poem. Very nice.

Great rhyme leo. I've had to Google grackle as it is not a species native to the UK. From what I read it is a predator to other small birds and nests so I did like how you made it the potential prey of some humans:-) hugs Jan xx

Very well written with strong hidden emotions and great flow. Your use of images and language adds to the charm and the depth of this work. I liked the poem as a good read, it has a very relatable human quality to it that's easily recognizable. Emile. #7
