How the Moon Does It

The moon spoons pieces of jeweled firmament from the universe's dark heart into her golden bowl, mixes incandescent milk with a cool touch, then pours it all out on us in tender love, hoping we are ready for such a gift. ----------------- December 19, 2016 For Kai Michael Neumann's contest - 'Moon Spoon'

Thank you, Paul. Must take what gifts the moon has for us, though I confess I long for the old days - close upon the moon's formation - when she was 15 times closer to us. Ah, now *those* were the days. ; )

Doug, this is beautiful. I had no idea, that a 'tristich' existed, let alone what it was. I love the notion that the moons blends so perfectly and we are hopefully ready for such a gift. Congratulations, Kai

Thank you, Kai. Great contest - the Moon, already such a fine theme for poetry, and concentrated in three lines.
Date: 12/22/2016 8:05:00 PM
wow, this is very creative. I have read at least five super creative ones recently. If this is a premier contest, how the heck will the judge be able to make up their mind? Awesome!! (I never heard of that form you used before. I am gonna look it up to see its definition)

: ) Andrea, I think "tristich" is pretty inclusive, all-encompassing, rather like the moon itself, which always gives us the benefit of the doubt.

Gracias, Tim! I'm a little disappointed this year since the moon will be very tiny on December 25, but what can a poor moon-gazer do?
Date: 12/20/2016 1:43:00 PM
Nice!!! I really like how you added: "then pours it all out on us in tender love."

Hi Jasmine. Thank you. : ) To think of how many people, how many generations of people, have looked at the moon and felt something...
Date: 12/20/2016 6:04:00 AM
Nicely crafted Doug. You have shown the moon in an entirely new poetic light. I really like how smooth this feels. A softness flows in its beams.

You do have a special way with words, Doug! Great imagery in this piece! Great poem! Now I have to look up tristich! Ha. It obviously means three! Good luck mate.

Cannot be that grievous a wound, should three stitches be enough. I fear for blindness - oh, to not be able to see the moon....
